Location :
We meet every week at 7:30 p.m. on Mondays
(except Bank Holidays) at the Greenwood Centre, School Road,
Hampton, Middlesex. A map of the area is linked on
this page. Play ends at 10:00. Transport could
be arranged for local residents.
The bridge : The format is Chicago (or occasionally Rubber Bridge) so
that players can have several partners. There is sometimes a small prize for
the player with the best score. We do not play duplicate but
individual Chicago competitions are planned. At
present we have three to five tables.
Who can come :
The atmosphere is friendly and new members are welcome.
You do not need to bring a partner. The standard is mixed and the
only requirement is an understanding of the basics.
Facilities :
Coffee and tea are provided and there is a lift for those
who cannot use the stairs.
Coaching :
Most weeks, but not all, there is a short lesson (about
20 minutes) on a fundamental subject of general interest. A list
of the subjects presented in the last two years can be seen
by clicking the "lesson modules" button.
There is also a two or three page handout from each lesson.
When appropriate, these will be published as a book. The
objective is to bring everyone up to a similar level of understanding.
The lessons are repeated from time to time. An example of the handouts
will be made
accessible under the "example handout" button. It treats one subject of general interest and
supports the brief lesson.
Supervision : The sessions are supervised by Anthony (Tony) Moon, who
is available to help with problems in the bidding or play. If
necessary I am available to complete a table but I prefer to
watch and help the others.
Cost : £4 per
session including refreshments. There is no annual
membership fee.
